Translating component fields

With the internationalization plugin installed, I can’t internationalize fields in components, the relevant checkbox is missing in the fields’ Advanced Settings!

In other content types, I can check “Enable localization for this Content-Type” when adding new content type, or “Enable localization for this field” when adding a field to Collection type or Single type. However, when creating a Component, or adding a field to it, I don’t see any internationalization options anywhere.

Someone please help me understand if i18n should be available for components and if so, what I’m doing wrong that I don’t see that option.
